A thesis presented to the faculty of the Graduate School; in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the Degree Master of Arts in Nursing major in Nursing Administration
This study determined the collaboration between staff nurses and clinical instructors in supervising Related Learning Experience (RLE). This study utilized the descriptive-correlational design using a researcher-made questionnaire. The research study was conducted at Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center and in University of Cebu-Banilad. The respondents were 25 staff nurses and 25 clinical instructors. Statistical treatments used were simple percentage, weighted mean, chi-square test of independence and t-test of independent samples.
Findings revealed that a majority of staff nurses were between 23-29, female, had 5 years of service, and were assigned to the delivery room. Most clinical instructors belonged to age bracket 25-30, female, had 2-3 years of service and were assigned to the psychiatric ward. Staff nurses and clinical instructors perceived a strong collaboration in supervising RLE. There was no significant relationship between the respondents’ profile and their degree of collaboration. The staff nurses’ and clinical instructors’ degree of collaboration in terms of assertiveness, autonomy and coordination were significantly different.
Thus, the researcher recommended the implementation of the action plan and to undertake more studies that would determine the degree of collaboration between staff nurses and clinical instructors and performance of students in RLE, interactive roles and management styles of clinical instructors and staff nurses in RLE, and mentoring competencies in RLE of staff nurses and clinical intsructors.
