• Hotels asked to lower rates for local tourists.
  The Department of Tourism in Central Visayas said it is now working with hotel operators in Cebu to lower room rates in an attempt to trigger interest of the local market to take vacation within the province. According to tourism undersecretary Arturo Boncato Jr. hotels and resorts in Cebu agreed to slash rates in order to boost domestic bookings. Buscato met with key tourism stakeholders in Cebu, together with tourism officers in 40 towns and cities within the province to start of programs which drum up local spending in tourism. Hotels and resorts are encouraged to offer attractive and much affordable prices in order to draw interest from the domestic market.
