This school year 2010-2011 is the start of the Secondary Education Curriculum’s implementation. It uses Understanding by Design 9UbD) as a framework for improving student achievement. It emphasizes the teacher’s critical role as a designer of student learning, UbD works within the standards-driven curriculum to help teachers clarify learning goals, devise revealing assessments of student understanding, and craft effective and engaging learning activities.
Teachers’ perceptions in using Understanding by Design (UbD) in terms of preparation, application, classroom evaluation, and student feedback served as a guide in determining how the implementation of the recent framework in teaching is. It also revealed the problems encountered by the teachers as they use it in their classroom setting with the help of the appropriate statistical tool namely: frequency distribution, weighted means, and simple percentages. In order to get a complete detail and a big picture of the study, descriptive method is being used.
Considering detail the findings of the study, iwt was revealed that there is a need for the teachers’ in six selected public high schools to develop and enhance their classroom evaluation skill specifically the performance assessments to ascertain academic performance in mathematics.
A proposed action plan is designed for the Division Supervisors’, School Administrators’, teachers’, and students’ involvement towards the achievement of high academic performance in mathematics leading to functionally literate students to increase. Moreover, this proposed action plan will serve as a channel in helping students to fully utilize their skills to learn well and thereby making their learning experience fulfilling and meaningful.
