Abstract
-
This study unfolded the lived experiences of the academic managers specifically the Criminology Deans and Program Heads of the different schools in Eastern Visayas who are offering the criminology course on the problems encountered in the administration, management and supervision of the course and what particular solutions given to address the problems experienced. Conclusions were drawn out as a result of this study and will be the basis in making necessary recommendation to solve the problems.
Utilized qualitative research method employing phenomenological research design using an interview guide for personal interviews and focused group discussions in unfolding life stories of academic managers of criminology schools. There were ten selected Academic Managers from schools in Eastern Visayas offering the Criminology program, where four of them were interviewed individually and the remaining six informants were for focused group discussion. The locale of the study includes Southern Leyte State University (SLSU), The Northwest Samar State University with its extension campus in San Jorge, Samar, Eastern Visayas Central Colleges (EVCC), Inc., Eastern Samar State University, Visayas State University, Tolosa Campus, finally, Samar College Inc.
Ten emergent themes were crafted after gathering the data from the informants. These themes are as follows: Happiness is Priceless, Health is Compromised. When Rules Are Broken, With Great Power Requires Great Trust, Right Decision at the Wrong Time, Accidentally In-Love, Back Me Up, Solving the Puzzle, Rip What You Sow, and Bringing Home the Bacon.
It is suggested that there should be strict implementation of school policies. The school and its administration must properly align its mission and vision when setting priorities in accepting and retaining students. They shall ensure to provide enough faculty members with specializations and trainings to be more knowledgeable to the subjects they are handling. Finally, as academic managers, they should listen to the grievances and suggestions of subordinates for the betterment of everyone involved.
