Abstract
Films are wonderful enhancements that add a visual aspect to topics. Films also create an atmosphere of creativity. Students could write a review of the film, create a synopsis and make a literary map of the story they watched. Like hands-on learning, films bring to subjects and stimulate further interests.
The study aimed to look into the utilization of films in teaching English Literature to junior high school students. The study is descriptive in nature, utilizing questionnaires with follow up interviews in gathering the data. This questionnaire includes the profile of the respondents in terms of gender, family status, exposure to films and academic performance; film characteristics which hold their attention; and ways of utilizing films in the teaching of English Literature in terms of previewing, viewing and post viewing activities.
Based on the findings, the utilization of films in teaching English Literature would enhance student learning. Teachers have to develop their ways of teaching films to students. They have utilize varied techniques for the students to become highly interested of the lesson. Using films is one way of convincing students to learn more from the subject.
Teachers have to be innovative enough in their ways of teaching films. They have to teach those film types which are least prioritized by the students in order to enhance their interpretative and critical levels of comprehension.
