This study aimed to determine victims’ awareness on Anti-Violence Against Women and their Children Act (R.A. 9262) and their coping mechanisms. The findings served as bases for a proposed action plan.
This study used a descriptive-correlational design. The research was conducted in the City of Naga, particularly barangays Jaguimit, Langtad, Central Poblacion, Langtad, Tuyan, West Poblacion and Inoburan. There were 25 subjects whose identities were extracted from City of Naga’s Department of Social Welfare and Development logbook from year 2011-2012, using the purposive or judgmental sampling. A pretest collected were categorized, tallied, tabulated and interpreted using statistical treatment.
Based on the findings of the study, most of the respondents experienced physical abuse from their partners with hitting as the primary manner. A majority of the respondents were aware of R.A. 9262. The coping mechanisms utilized by most of the subjects were active-awareness on R.A. 9262 and their coping mechanisms. Moreover, the findings showed a positive, low correlation between variables.
Recommendations made include first, the encouragement of future researchers to do the following studies such as (a). Community Awareness on P.A. 9262, (b.) Perpetrators’ perception on abuse and violence, (c.) Effects of domestic violence among family members, (d.) Incidence of domestic violence among gay/lesbian partner and second, the implementation of proposed action plan.
