Abstract
This study explored the views of security guards on risk and security in the implementation of security procedures of commercial banks in Cebu City. The informants this study were security guards assigned at different commercial banks. The researcher chose ten informants, where four (4) were for in-depth interview and the six (6) were for focused group discussion. The problem of the study consists of two parts: the experiences of security guards on risk and security, and the needs of security guards.
Purposive sampling was utilized in selecting the informants. The study utilized exploratory method of researching through in-depth and focused group discussant interviews. The locale of the study is Cebu City. Consent forms were signed by the informants before the interview. Questions were personally asked by the researcher and recorded using a smart phone. Notes were also taken in order to record all important information during the interview.
The following themes were drawn: for the experiences of the informants on risk were: Robbery is an Inherited Risk to Bank, Touch Me Not: Female Customers Are Off Limits, and Don't Bend the Rules; for the experiences of the informants on security is Target Hardening, and, for the needs of the informants were Satisfied Employees is Good for Business and More Sweat in Training, Less Bleeding in Combat.
Risk is inevitable to banking institutions, however it can be reduced by strictly implementing security measure, policies, protocols, and internal controls to achieve maximum protection of lives and properties.
