Abstract
The study of conversational maxim is found in the broader concept of discourse. In oral or written communication, the key to understanding is the right interpretation of the spoken words. There are times when speakers’ conversation will have some implicatures, thus creating miscommunications. Grice’s theory of cooperative principle where conversational maxins are found can be a guide to fill in gaps of information. A drama which has the conversations of its characters is included.
Teachers should include conversational maxins for better and in depth analysis and interpretation of a literary piece. Sticking to the common use of its elements might cause boredom of the students; hence conversational maxins are needed for them to have more interest and challenge in the study of drama. This study can become a guide for the enhancement of teaching drama in Philippine literature at the graduate school level.
